Hello Everyone!
This week I’m going to be blogging about a backyard bird… THE BROWN HONEYEATER!!!
Recently, we moved houses and my mum and I were starting to see a brown and yellow bird. We thought it was quite rare at first, but turns out they’re not rare, just very local to where I live. We were getting very, curious about what it was called. Eventually, it was just too much and we looked up a website that had a list of all the local birds. We searched and searched and searced and searched and just as we were about give up, we finally found it!!
BROWN HONEYEATER! (It doesn’t just eat honey though.)
Brown honeyeaters are brown and yellow birds and are cousins of the helmeted honeyeaters, noisy miners, new holland honeyeaters and so many more! Nectar is their main diet but they eat some other stuff like fruits, seeds, insects and spiders. They are very fussy eaters so those are the only things they eat.
Another interesting fact about honeyeaters is that they can fly backwards! Honeyeaters are some of the only birds in the world that can fly backwards, sideways, upside-down (yes, upside down! Isn’t that cool?) and can also hover in mid air, up there with hummingbirds. I have never seen them fly backwards yet, but one day I hope I will.
For a small bird, it has a pretty loud call! It sounds something like this: It’s more of a sweet, loud, TWEET! TWEET! call, with a few small croaks in between.
I hope you enjoyed the blog post and I would love to see you again for next week’s animal! Thanks for reading.
I think the name is more apt for you kreeti. The brown honey eater. ( brown honey)
