Hello Everyone!
Today I am going to be blogging about a very cute animal… THE PADEMELON! I once went to a sanctuary where there’s a program where you can be a zookeeper for a day and I went there. (Twice.) I fed loads of animals like kangaroos, wallabies, cockatoos, lorikeets, and, most importantly, THE PADEMELON!
There are lots of types of pademelons including: Red-Bellied Pademelons (also called Tasmanian Pademelons), Brown’s Pademelon, Dusky Pademelon, Calaby’s Pademelon, and a lot more! The one I’m blogging about is the Red Bellied Pademelon. Pademelons are one of Australia’s smallest (and personally, I think cutest,) marsupials. (Which is a pouched mammal.) They are only native to Australia and New Guinea.
They have fur colouring to blend in with their surroundings (I think?😕) and usually have a mix of brown, grey, red and black on their fur.
They also eat a variety of things like fruits, fallen leaves, bark, fresh leaves, fungus and cicadas. (Cicadas are like HUGE grasshoppers. I once saw a cicada and it looked like a green MONSTER.)
Pademelons are often confused with other small Australian mammals like quokkas or wallabies. But they are none of those. They are their own unique species– Pademelons! (There are some key differences but I won’t be going through them today.)
Thanks for reading this week’s post and I hope to see you next week! Bye for now!!
