NOTE BEFORE READING: I know I haven’t blogged in more than 3 months and I am really, extremely, truly, purely, sorry about that. I’ve just not found the time but now since it’s the holidays I am going to make up for all those lost writing pieces! Also, I couldn’t find much info on these cute creatures, which is why today’s blog is so short. Sorry!

Hi, so as I said before, I haven’t really been writing for a while. But I’ve met some amazing animals during this time, and now I’m going to share some of them with you!
Today’s animal is the AUSTRALIAN FUR SEAL. I was recently on a boat trip with my family, and we were sailing past a shelter type thing, just floating in the middle of the sea, and on it, there were hundreds, maybe thousands, (okay, probably not a thousand) SEALS!!! They were so cute! They were just lounging around and doing bellyflops into the water. They did awesome tricks in the water by the way, like spinning and twisting. They gave off a stinkingly horrible stench, which the guide told us was regurgitated (vomited) fish. 🀒 Yuck. If you want to hear more about these amazing (and slightly stinky) animals, read on!

AUSTRALIAN FUR SEAL

The Aussie Fur Seals are sometimes called the brown fur seals, and are the largest fur seals in the world! (Remember, largest fur seals. The largest seals are the Southern Elephant Seals.) The males can reach up to 2.5 metres in length and the females can reach up to 2.3 metres. They both weigh (I think) at around 200-300 kg. On land, they’re look really heavy as they lumber around, but in the water these Aussie creatures are sleek, smooth, and graceful.

The Australian Fur Seal’s fur colour actually depends on the gender. Males are more dark brown or grey with a pale underside, while females can have a pale fawn to grey-brown with a pale yellow throat and underside. These seals have large eyes that can see very well in the dark, which also look very cute. They have a pointed snout and face, whiskers which help them find food, and very sharp teeth, kind of like a bear’s!

The Australian Fur Seals mainly eat bony fish, squid, and octopuses. (Octopi?) However, they will sometimes eat small seabirds like the Australian/New Zealand Blue Penguins.

So, in short, I think that the Aussie Fur Seals are some extremely cute, noisy, and amaazing animals. πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‰
